Jimmy Eat World Fans?

September 8th, 2009

I really like Jimmy Eat World, and I want to buy a CD, but for the time being, I only want to buy one.
I know two songs off Bleed American, and three off Chase This Light.
In your opinion, which one’s better? I can’t decide which to get. :p
After seeing how much all you guys liked Futures, I listened to some of those songs on myspace, and I actually like that one better than the other two I was looking at. I’m probably going to go with Futures now, thanks for suggesting it! :]

The World According to Barf

September 2nd, 2009
Hangovers I have had. But that morning, it broke all records for raw pain. I’m one day out of hospital and several pints to the worse in the pub after the ambulance releases me back into the wild. You have these great Disney pictures in your mind — Bambi has been rescued from a fate worse than death by some cute kids who nurse him back to health (giving him Acomplia to help him quit whatever he’s on). Then, with tears in their eyes, they let him go. The shot tracks Bambi just out-of-sight behind a bush where a lion tears it to bits (what a waste of good Acomplia unless it cures the lion of its addiction to Bambis). Well that’s how I feel. That night of joy in the pub, welcoming home the conquering hero, has left me on a rack of pain. Everything that could hurt, hurts big time.My lion is my life in the pub with friends who live for the moment without thinking about consequences. I’ve just had a heart attack which left me lying on my back in hospital for days with the chance to think about how my life has gone down the toilet. But, within minutes of coming home, I’m chugging beer, cigarette in my hand again, and pie and chips swilling around inside the stomach. Everything that was supposedly off-limits was instantly back in play. No Acomplia inside me to help me beat the cravings. The result? I can’t think for the pain in my head. My eyes are gummed together. My mouth feels like someone’s already been sick in there. The wheezing from my lungs suggests I’m still alive, but only just. My chest feels like its on fire — there seems to be a little seepage of blood under the bandages — hopefully the operation scars haven’t opened too much. The news from the stomach is that I may part company with some of last night’s celebration sometime soon. And everything else just hurts.

Dimly, I recall the faint whiff of hope I had when in hospital. The promise of this Acomplia was supposed to keep me safe. A juju to keep the evil spirits away. The stories from the clinical trials were more than encouraging. Acomplia was a new kind of magic bullet — kill two birds with one stone. Enhance your weight loss program and deal with the smoking. Bang! All done and dusted! I may also be an alcoholic in the making, but let’s not go there for now. Three’s too much for one bullet.

So I gently prise open the eyes and start pretending I’m going to be able to get out of bed before bladder and stomach release their contents. Where’s my friendly team of nurses with bed pans and encouraging smiles when you need them. It really is remarkable how much they are a part of the cure. Their mixture of hard-working fun lifts flagging spirits. Even the talking heads with their well-meaning advice about how I’ve got to cut down on the beer, quit smoking and eat better are a break in the monotony of recovery. And always, this talk about Acomplia. This next six or seven weeks is just going to fly by — then you’ll be cured. What bullshit! But when you hear it, you grab on to it like you’re a drowning man. Well, drowning is the wrong word for a heart attack victim. But it’s a lifeline. Something to give you a sense you might live through all this.

I’m just starting to plan a trip to the doctor to get the prescription for Acomplia and have it at the chemists ready waiting for the day, when I suddenly realise that everything’s coming to a head (and all other parts of the anatomy). The race was on — the incentive for a man living on his own to hustle no matter what the pain is that it’s a real pain to clean vomit (and worse) off a carpet.

Life of Christ in our human body

Article by Dr.Jimmy.M.L.

1. Doctor and patients

We can see that in some people the diseases recurs even after they are treated and relived. For some others, when one disease is cured, another comes. When that is relived, next one comes. Why is this happening ?.

I am a bone specialist doctor. At least half of the patients whom I examine in the out patient clinic shows signs of mental problems like anxieties, depressions etc along with physical diseases. If these types of problems are not solved, there are possibilities that the diseases will recur, after they are relived. Take, back ache as example. It is scientifically recorded that, for around eighty percent of the back aches, along with the causes from the bone diseases, mental tension, in correct postures and in correct walking styles are causes. When the mental ‘heaviness’ influences the body, even the styles by which we stand and walk changes.

It is scientifically proven that there are mental causes to many diseases such as allergy, hypertension, diabetes myletes, heart attack, ulcer, sneezing, some type of rheumatic diseases, asthma, headache etc. The mental tension changes the type and amount of hormones in the body, decreases the immunity against diseases, retards the relief from diseases and also retards the healing of the wounds. We can include the following in the table of mental causes such as angriness, bitterness, sorrow, anxiety, suppressed desires, un healed mental injuries from childhood onwards, and the state of un obtained love and recognition and sexual problems.

The emotions of lack ness such as grievances due to death of close relatives, sense of loss, inferiority complex and sense of failures influences the health in a bad way. “For my life is spent with sorrow, my years with sighing. My strength fails because of my iniquity. My bones are wasted away”(Psa 31:10). Because some people sub consciously concentrate their attention to the body to

2

forget their grieves and anxieties, through the working of their sub conscious minds, it changes to hysterical diseases.

2. False desires and lusts

Are the mental problems mentioned before, simply mental problems ?. Is it not that in many of them, there is an element of sin ?. “For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another”(Tit 3:3). Some people lead themselves and others to mental tensions and diseases due to lack of self-control, anger, quarrels, tantrums and also due to improper use of their tongues. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit”(Pro 18:21).

Many are under the clutches of family problems, inter personal troubles, job problems and financial problems. The problems of many are imaginary problems due to over anxiety, fear, imaginary reasons and un necessary desires. Are not many of our problems, due to over desire for money ?. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows”(1Ti 6:10).

Some people have become patients due to bad habits such as alcoholism, smoking, chewing pack, snuffing powder, drug addiction, over eating, laziness, state of having no physical exertion, over television watching etc. The alcoholism causes quarrels, poverty, the road traffic accidents that are commonly seen now days, cirrhosis of liver, tremor, peptic ulcer and the changes in stomach and liver that leads to vomiting of blood. “Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise”(Pro 20:1). The smoking causes many diseases like lung cancer, ulcer, bronchitis and the stage of legs in which, the legs have to be amputated due to decreased blood circulation in the legs etc.

3. Are humans destined to be diseased ?

We were created in the image of God. All the authority on earth was given to human beings. “God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after

3

our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth”(Gen 1:26). Then how did disease and death conquered human beings ?. Due to the sin of Adam, through obeying “world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places”(Eph 6:12), these authorities were decietdly taken by “him who had the power of death, that is, the devil”(Heb 2:14). Because “The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy”(John 10:10), death and disease entered the world. The following bible words shows that there is a spiritual death before physical disease. “The members of his body shall be devoured. The firstborn of death shall devour his members”(Job 18:13).

Yet God by his infinite love, by the price of Christ’s blood shed on the cross, saved those who believe in Jesus, from eternal death. “So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life”(Rom 5:18). He brought to us success over diseases by the stripes which Christ beard. “who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed”(1Pe 2:24). At the time of second coming of Jesus, because the Satan and death will be thrown to the fire river, “the last enemy that will be abolished is death”(1Co 15:26).

4. How to defeat disease ?

When disease and mystery comes on us, “Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you”(1Pe 4:12). We being ascertained in belief, by the authority obtained through the name of Jesus, should try to “destroy the works of the devil”(1Jo 3:8). “Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you”(Jam 4:7). First we must “remember therefore from where you have fallen”(Rev 2:5). The word of God says, when a believer gets disease “Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective”(Jam 5:16). Another

4

word says “Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven”(Jam 5:14,15).Some time’s miraculous healing s occurs at the time of worship, when the presence of Holy Spirit is manifested.

To testify that he is son of God, Jesus said “Jesus answered them,’Go and tell John the things which you have seen and heard: that the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them”(Luke 7:22). The same Jesus said “Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father”(John 14:12). “But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed”(Jam 1:6). We read about the importance of belief in ‘Acts’ also. “He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him, and being that he had faith to be made whole, said with a loud voice, ‘Stand upright on your feet!’ He leaped up and walked”(Act 14:9,10).

Some propagate the idea that the miraculous divine healings are just temporary feelings, when people get mental peace and rejuvenation or they are some matters like hypnotism. It is a fact that many diseases that are beyond the human treatment capabilities are healed by God’s intervention. We have to remember in this instance that, nothing is impossible for the God who created universe.

5. Let him be glory

When we depend on him in our diseases, “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose”(Rom 8:28). Some of our diseases become opportunities for God’s glory to be manifested. When Jesus heard about the Laser’s disease “he said, ‘ This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”(John 11:4). Later Jesus raised him from the dead. Meaning of all what is written above is not that, we should not go to doctors, when diseases afflict

5

us. Let us notice the Jesus’ own words for this. “When Jesus heard it, he said to them,’ Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do”(Mat 9:12). It is written in Apostle Paul’s letter “Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas greet you”(Col 4:14). Whether the disease is healed by direct prayer, through the mediatory prayers of others, by using the authority given in the name of Jesus or through doctors, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen”(Rom 11:36).

6. Healthy living

Let us now think about the words that show light on the mentalities that are apt for healthy living. The proper use of tongue gives growth to the health of ourselves and those who are conversing to us. “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones”(Pro 16:24). Bible clearly teaches us to control anger. “Be angry, and don’t sin.Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil”(Eph 4:26,27). Through the Jesus Christ who strengthens us, we can be freed from our bad habits.

Jesus teaches us that we need not worry about our earthly life. “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’.For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things”(Mat 6:31,32). Because Jesus is with us, we need not be anxious about any thing. “But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow”(Mat 6:33,34). As we become close to God, our sorrowful thoughts gets wiped away. “You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures for ever more”(Psa 16:11). “You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;”(Eph 2:1,2). God’s word says, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh,

6

and depart from evil. It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones”(Pro 3:6-8).

7. Abundant life

God loves us greater than our mothers. “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you!”(Isa 49:15). Jesus is looking to us with compassion. “Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them, and healed their sick”(Mat 14:14). God’s desire is that, we be good in all. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers”(3Jo 1:2). He promised us abundant life. “The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly”(John 10:10). Hence let us believe and depend on him fully.

Walkers of the World Unite, You Have Nothing to Lose But Your Pounds

August 15th, 2009
Now that I’m writing these pieces, it’s turning into a kind of diary — Confessions of a Loser. Weight Loss on Phentermine and Acomplia.

I kept a diary when I was a kid at school, recording all the really important things like the boys I fancied and how I would most like to lose my virginity with each of them. My mother found it one day and quietly burned it, saying it was the dirtiest book she’d ever read which, by the standards of the 1950s, wasn’t a hard prize to win. But I was devastated — that terrible mixture of shame and embarrassment in being found out.

Moving forward — until my moment in the supermarket, I was living my life without any sense of shame about my appearance. Yet even that begs the question. What has my appearance got to do with anyone else? If they don’t like what they see, let them look somewhere else. Now that sounds like something I should write when I’m on the phentermine. I always feel so positive and full of go during thse six weeks.

But when I wrote my last piece about walking, I hadn’t really thought back to those early days of exercise. With my calm Acomplia eye, I can see myself, red-faced and not quite staggering along the pavements round our neighbourhood. What an extraordinary sight I must have been. In a completely affectionate way, my husband had been referring to my thunder thighs for sometime, but it’s not until you have them slapping together in a quicker walk than usual that the full horror of it all should hit you. Yet, in my phentermine enthusiasm, I never gave it a second thought. Except when I came out with a few blisters and had to start massaging in some cream. Friction is a terrible curse when you carry a few extra pounds.

Even when I was in my washout period and then on Acomplia for the first time, I just kept on walking. I had no sense that I was in any way ridiculous. I was in my bubble, focussed on the one important thing in my life at that time (apart from the family). Well, even that’s not so clear. My motive for weight loss was my wish to enjoy my family for more years. But weight loss was suddenly “up there” with the “loved ones”.

So, day in, day out, my neighbourhood was treated to the unedifying sight of me waddling ever faster past their doors and windows. Perhaps my expression changed depending on whether it was a phentermine or Acomplia month. I must have given birth to quite a few “funny” stories, and probably at least one urban myth about a killer granny on the loose from the local loony bin and looking for someone to eat. But, with my clear Acomplia eye, I can see that I had one big advantage over anyone reading this in the USA.

In England, walking is not so unusual. Strange as it may seem to you, people really do walk to work or to the shops. So, when I was out ploughing my lonely furrow, I did stand out in a crowd, but not quite so much as you would in most North American cities where the automobile is king. I’ve been to the USA twice and it was immediately obvious that the only people walking were the eccentric and the desperately poor. Put me as a lone figure waddling down a street in your city. Now that’s a completely different ball game (as you might say).

As an agony aunt in the making, the only words of encouragement I can give you are the simple ones. Which is more important — your life or your image? So what if most around you mock and sneer. Think of the alternative. You are going to allow yourself to be intimidated into inactivity so you won’t lose weight as quickly or at all. Is that really what you want? There are times when you just have to accept the role of eccentric, learn to live with shame and embarrassment, and get on with your own life. Now where did I put my diary?
